Daybreakers, the futuristic sci-fi vampire flick, is due out on Friday. In preparation for that event, I’m sharing a new clip (thanks to Dread Central). This one features a dapper looking Sam Neill. It’s not anything overly dramatic, but Sam Neill is pretty fucking cool all on his own. He did fight velociraptors, after all–which makes him a complete badass in my book.

Edward Dalton is a researcher in the year 2019, in which an unknown plague has transformed the world’s population into vampires. As the human population nears extinction, vampires must capture and farm every remaining human, or find a blood substitute before time runs out. However, a covert group of vampires makes a remarkable discovery, one which has the power to save the human race.
Bloody-Disgusting has gotten word from Sony Screen Gems that their upcoming manga adaptation, Priest, will be making it’s theatrical debut a week earlier than originally expected. The film, which stars Paul Bettany as a warrior priest caught in the middle of a vampire/human war. When his niece is kidnapped, he sets out to find her–and one would presume to kill as many bloodsuckers as possible along the way.
The film’s new and improved release date is August 20th. Sony didn’t announce a reason for the shift.
The film is directed by Scott Charles Stewart, and features a supporting cast that includes Cam Gigandet, Madchen Amick, Maggie Q., and genre favorite Brad Dourif.
You can tell the futuristic vampire flick Daybreakers will be out soon, because it feels like we’re getting a new preview clip every day. Yesterday was apparently an exception, though since we got two new clips instead.
The first one features Ethan Hawke and someone arguing. Blood is thrown, then we get a good look at one of the film’s mutated vampires. Pretty freaking looking, and he doesn’t mumble any romantic lines, so that’s a double win in my book.
The second clip (found after the break) again features Hawke, this time doing the ethical thing and saving some humans. I need a car with “daylight driving mode” like his.
Daybreakers promises to bring some monstrous vampires your way on January 9th.
We’re less than a month away from the release of Daybreakers and Spike TV has a new clip from the film. This snippet highlights what happens when you deny some well dressed businessmen vampires their daily dose of blood coffee. I guess these guys don’t really care about caffeine…
Daybreakers will unleash a vampiric new world order on January 8th.
Interesting news from THR’s Heat Vision blog. It appears as though Summit Entertainment isn’t content to cram vampires down our throat with Twilight. News appeared yesterday about the company’s next foray into bloodsucker territory, the much more intriguing sounding Vlad.
“The company has picked up “Vlad,” a script by actor Charlie Hunnam, and is in negotiations with music video and photographer Anthony Mandler to direct the project. Brad Pitt is producing with Dede Gardner via the duo’s Plan B Entertainment production shingle.
“Vlad” centers on Dracula as a young prince; he is known to history as Vlad the Impaler, the man behind the Dracula myth.“
Sounds interesting enough. The world could use a flick based on Vlad Tepes, whose real-life was probably more horrifying than anything Stoker conjured up in the first place.
Fangoria scored a look at the official cover art for the US DVD release of Lesbian Vampire Killers (which has been shortened to Vampire Killers here in the land of prudes…) and it once again highlights how most marketing people seem to lack any kind of creative vision. I get the joke with the Twilight riff and all, but the rest of the picture looks a lot like the poster for Zombieland. I don’t really get why that is.
Anyway, Vivendi Universal will be releasing the disc nationwide on December 29th. No word yet on extras, but I’ll pass them along as soon as I hear what they are.

Vampires are all the rage again, and if you’re a horror fan, it seems like it’s for all the wrong reasons. The Twilight films are just the latest movies in a long line of titles to take one of horror’s classic monsters and turn them into some sort of half-assed tragically romantic figures. If you’re like me, and think the only good vampires are ones that feast vicariously on the blood of the living before meeting the business end of a stake, then this new trailer Daybreakers should brighten up your Thanksgiving.

I’ve seen all three Underworld movies and I’m still not really sure if I like them or not, but apparently someone out there does because production is moving along on a fourth installment in the seemingly never-ending Vampire/Werewolf war.
THR’s Heat Vision Blog is reporting that the fourth film now has a screenwriter: John Hlavin. If that name isn’t familiar to you, you’ve seen his work if you ever watched FX’s The Shield.
Details about the new film are being kept quiet, but Hlavin did offer up this tidbit. “I can tell you it’s not a prequel.It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don’t want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements.“
I’ll tell ya what would excite me–Vic Mackey showing up to pop some caps in vampire and werewolf asses. If that happened, no one would even care if it was a remake, a prequel, or if Kate Beckinsale was coming back. Let’s all cross our fingers and hope this comes to pass.

About the only thing certain about the planned cinematic version of Konami’s popular horror game Castlevania is this: it will be based on a videogame.
The film turns up in the news once every few months, and it’s usually just to announce some sort of change in who’s doing what in the production. Paul WS Anderson was set to write and direct at one point, then he dropped out. News came back in July that Saw creator James Wan was attached to direct (which was pretty exciting news), but even that may not be the case.
Bloody-Disgusting has a staffer on set of Anderson’s Resident Evil: Afterlife, and he reports back to the mothership with the following piece of puzzling news. According to RE producer Jeremy Bolt, Anderson is once again interested in the Castlevania project.
I’m not sure what to make of this story, so I’m taking it with some healthy skepticism until we hear more. No offense to Anderson, but I’d be far more interested in seeing what Wan would do with this property. I’ll bring you more on this one as the details become clearer.
