Stephen Susco Writing Hack/Slash

Hack Slash

Stephen Susco is everywhere these days. If you’re a Hollywood executive, and you want to hire a writer for your horror project, apparently this is the guy you call immediately. Seems like I mention him in a story at least once a week, which may not seem like much until you realize he’s a screenwriter. Most people can’t even name a screenwriter (unless they’re a writer/director), let alone a horror specialist.

Anyway, various sources are reporting that the writer (who’s also working on Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D and The Butcherhouse Chronicles) is now onboard to write the latest draft of the long awaited Hack/Slash movie. The film, which will be based on the popular comic book of the same title, centers on Cassie Hack–a woman who symbolizes the lone girl who survives at the end of every horror movie. Hack not only survived, she has become a killer of killers and travels to small towns across the country hunting slashers in the vein of “Halloween’s†Michael Myers, “Friday the 13th’s†Jason Voorhees and “A Nightmare on Elm Street’s†Freddy Krueger. She is partnered on her journey with Vlad, a hulking companion who serves as her protector.

Fredrik Bond has been tapped to direct the feature. Still no word on possible casting, but I’ll bring it to you when it’s announced.

Hack/Slash Lands a New Director

hack-slash

Sometimes I wonder if we’ll ever really see a big screen version of cult horror comic Hack/Slash. We’ve heard about it for what seems like an eternity. It’s had rumored stars (Megan Fox), attached directors (Todd Lincoln) and a screenplay–but it never seems to go anywhere.

THR says that might finally be changing–Todd Lincoln is out as director, Fredrik Bond is in. Bond is a commercial director, which is why you’ve probably never heard of him.

The article goes on to describe the series like this:

“Hack/Slash,” created by Tim Seeley and Stefano Caselli, centers on Cassie Hack, a woman who symbolizes the lone girl who survives at the end of every horror movie. Hack not only survived, she has become a killer of killers and travels to small towns across the country hunting slashers in the vein of “Halloween’s” Michael Myers, “Friday the 13th’s” Jason Voorhees and “A Nightmare on Elm Street’s” Freddy Krueger. She is partnered on her journey with Vlad, a hulking companion who serves as her protector.

It’s a great comic and would make a very cool film (if done right…). The studio would like to begin filming this winter.

Eve Synopsis Points out More Hack/Slash Similarities

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

Earlier this week, news broke about Eve–a new film about a chick who hunts down supernatural serial killers. Sounded a lot like Hack/Slash, but no one really knew much about the story. Now, Upcoming Horror Movies has managed to uncover some of the film’s plot details–and the similarities between the two stories seems even more pronounced.

The film is set in an alternate, more seedy Los Angeles. After discovering her father was the deadliest serial killer of all time, Evelyn makes the decision to track down every psycho she can get her hands on. But these are no ordinary killers, they have supernatural advantages to them – something she must learn to adapt to. She also must learn as to why they are gathering in this city and what their evil intentions are while having to reconcile with her own past.

Meanwhile, Hack/Slash, Cassie becomes a hunter of supernatural serial slayers called slashers after discovering that her mother (called The Lunch Lady) was one of them.

Truthfully, I’m not overly bothered about the similarities. I’ll wind up seeing both of these movies and I sincerely hope both turn out well. In a perfect world, this would serve as the catalyst to get the Hack/Slash project out of development limbo and on to the production fast track.

Here’s some concept art for Eve just to get you in the mood.

Eve Set to Become the Poor Man’s Hack/Slash

hack-slash

While the planned adaptation of cult comic Hack/Slash languishes in development under the watchul eyes of Rogue Pictures, Ratio Pictures is ready to tackle very similar subject matter in their just announced feature, Eve.

Variety is reporting that Eve will be a story about a young woman who hunts down and kills supernatural serial killers. Brian Metcalf, Karoline Kautz and Elaine Hendrix will produce with Hugh Edwards exec producing.

Hendrix will also star along with Jordan Matthews. The script was penned and will be directed by Metcalf. Shooting isn’t expected to begin until sometime next year.

While Eve certainly sounds interesting, I’d still just rather see a Hack/Slash movie instead. Come on, Rogue–just sign Megan Fox and get this thing made already.
