First TV Teaser for Adam Green’s Frozen

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Adam Green’s latest film, Frozen, generated quite a bit of buzz when it played Sundance last week. The story of kids stuck on a ski lift in the middle of nowhere seems to really connect with audiences because it seems s0 plausible. If a horror film can make an audience put themselves into the character’s situation with minimal suspension of disbelief, it’s definitely doing something right.

The film is slated for a limited theatrical release next weekend, and to get everyone in the mood, here’s the latest TV teaser advertisement. There’s no chance in Hell that Frozen will play anywhere near me, but I hope some of you get the opportunity to see it on the big screen.

Frozen Website Brings Adam Green’s Latest to the Masses

Monday, December 28th, 2009

As Sundance gets closer and closer (and I come to grips with the realization that I will once again not be attending this year…) we’re learning more about Adam Green’s Frozen–and each new tidbit of information that comes to light has me excited about the director’s follow-up to his silly yet entertaining slasher film Hatchet.

Frozen’s official website made its debut over the holiday break (not long after the first trailer, which I highly recommend checking out if you haven’t already–I’m re-posting it below so you don’t even have to click a link or scroll very far. See how lucky you guys are to have me? I do it all for you…

The new site is pretty sparse at the moment, but that should change over the course of the coming weeks. Click here to have a look and poke around at what’s there.

If you haven’t heard about the film, it’s a story about three friends who go skiing and get stuck in a lift chair high above the ground when the place closes for several days (and doesn’t realize they’re still on said lift chair) and their struggle to survive in the freezing cold. Basically, it’s like Open Water for the skiing crowd.

As mentioned, it’s playing Sundance next month, then Anchor Bay will release it into a select group of theaters in early February.

Check Out the Sundance 2010 Trailer for Frozen

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Adam Green’s Frozen, his follow up to his cult slasher flick Hatchet, is set to debut at Sundance next month. In preparation for that event, an official trailer is now online. You can have a gander at it below.

Three friends head out for a ski trip and find themselves stuck on the lift after it’s shut down for the night. Trapped in the air, they struggle to figure out a way to survive the elements and escape from their predicament.

When I first heard about the film, I was the slightest bit skeptical as to whether or not Green would be able to sustain this premise for a full feature length film. Now having seen the clip, I’m totally sold. Frozen is sort of like Open Water in that it’s based on a premise that could plausibly happen. The terror of it is multiplied by the fact that almost anyone (even if they don’t scuba dive or snow ski) can envision themselves stuck in the same situation. I suspect you’ll hear lots of joking references to it on the ski slopes after it debuts next month.

Until then, enjoy the trailer.

Check This Out: New Frozen Poster

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

Frozen posterFresh off its debut at Austin’s Butt-Numb-a-Thon event (I really need to get to Austin one of these days…), here’s a clean, unwatermarked look at the poster for Adam Green’s highly anticipated follow up to Hatchet, Frozen.

I’m no marketing or design guy, but I like this poster. At the very least, they didn’t go out and rip off some other bigger and more popular movie. There’s not much else to say about it, so here’s a plot breakdown for the film, which opens on February 5th. Click on the image to see a much larger version.

A typical day on the slopes turns into a chilling nightmare for three snowboarders when they get stranded on the chairlift before their last run. As the ski patrol switches off the night lights, they realize with growing panic that they’ve been left behind dangling high off the ground with no way down.

With the resort closed until the following weekend and frostbite and hypothermia already setting in, the trio is forced to take desperate measures to escape off the mountain before they freeze to death. Once they make their move, they discover with horror that they have much more to fear than just the frigid cold. As they combat unexpected obstacles, they start to question if their will to survive is strong enough to overcome the worst ways to die?

It Looks Like February is a Good Time to Get Frozen

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

frozen-teaserIt seems like we’ve been waiting for a very long time for Adam Green’s Frozen, but the end may be in sight. Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that the Hatchet director’s latest film may be in theaters February 5th. Anchor Bay hasn’t made this official yet, it makes sense and I suspect that it will be confirmed sooner rather than later. One thing to keep in mind–since this is Anchor Bay, it will almost assuredly be a limited theatrical release. Still, that means a DVD version isn’t too far off on the horizon.

If you’re not familiar with the film, here’s the brief synopsis:

Dan, Joe and Parker are three college students on the last day of a skiing vacation in New England. But when they take the last lift up the mountain, and are accidentally stranded halfway up, they must fight for survival against primordial enemies: cold, wind, rain, snow, and altitude. Kevin Zegers, Emma Bell and Shawn Ashmore all star.
