Survival of the Dead DVD Art

George Romero’s latest zombie opus, Survival of the Dead is currently available on VOD and at select theaters. However, if you’re holding out for a DVD release, news broke last week that August 24th was the date you were waiting for. On that day, retailers will start selling copies of the Ultimate Undead Edition of the film, a two-disc collector’s set sure to be filled with all sorts of goodies.

Wal-Mart’s website has the DVD up for pre-order, including a single disc edition for those who don’t want to pay for a bunch of supplements they’ll never watch. Even better, they’ve got our first look at the cover art for the film. That’s it at the top of the post.

Here’s the film’s plot synopsis:

When the idyllic retreat of Plum Island falls victim to the zombie plague, a new breed of clan war breaks out. On one side is the camp who want to exterminate all undead with a wickedly diverse array of brain-splattering headshots. On the other, devoted family members take the stance that “zombie-ism” is a disease, the undead have rights and they must be kept alive until a cure is found. Unable to simply “agree to disagree,” the two clans go to war and make their island microcosm a whole hell of a lot bloodier. An undead parallel to the tribal wars that are plaguing our own society today, SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD exposes the futility of such conflict and the need for tolerance of the beliefs of others. Plus it’s got zombie horses in it!

Cover Art for Brian Keene’s The Last Zombie

While plot details regarding Brian Keene’s new foray into a world of the living dead remain hard to come by, the author has given us a small taste of what to expect when his new comic series debuts this summer. Above you’ll find the first issue cover art for Keene’s The Last Zombie. Looks pretty spiffy to me.

Keep up with all of Keene’s latest projects at his official website.

I Sell the Dead DVD

One of my favorite under-the-radar films of last year was Glenn McQuaid’s I Sell the Dead. The film turned up on IFC’s VOD service, but most people missed it. I reported news earlier that it was slated to come to DVD at the end of March. Now, Dread Central has scored a look at the cover art and supplemental materials for the disc. Looks like it’s shaping up to be a nice release.

That’s the cover art above. Extras on the disc include:

  • Commentary with stars Dominic Monaghan and Larry Fessenden
  • Commentary with director Glenn McQuaid
  • The Making of I Sell the Dead featurette
  • The Visual Effects of I Sell the Dead featurette
  • Trailer
  • Check out my review if you’re on the fence about this one. I Sell the Dead hits retail on March 30th.

H2 DVD coverH2 DVD cover back

A few days ago, I posted the advertising flyer for the Blu-ray version of Rob Zombie’s Halloween II. Today, the hard working crew over at STYD have landed better photos of the Blu-ray release, but also the art for the DVD version as well. That’s what you’re seeing above (the theatrical cut art is exactly the same, only with a different banner on the top. DVD owners will be able to choose between a Theatrical disc of the film and an Unrated one. Blu-Ray owners appear to only be getting the unrated cut. Here’s the breakdown on extras:

    • Commentary with Writer/Director Rob Zombie (available only for the unrated edition)
    • movieIQ (use logo) and BD-Live connect you to real-time information on the cast, music, trivia and more while watching the movie! (available only on Blu-Ray)
    • Deleted and Alternate Scenes
    • Blooper Reel
    • Audition Footage
    • Make-Up Test Footage
    • Uncle Seymour Coffins’ Stand-Up Routines
    • Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures Music Videos

You’ll be able to pick these up at your local DVD emporium on January 12th.

    Lesbian Vampire Killers DVD

Fangoria scored a look at the official cover art for the US DVD release of Lesbian Vampire Killers (which has been shortened to Vampire Killers here in the land of prudes…) and it once again highlights how most marketing people seem to lack any kind of creative vision. I get the joke with the Twilight riff and all, but the rest of the picture looks a lot like the poster for Zombieland. I don’t really get why that is.

Anyway, Vivendi Universal will be releasing the disc nationwide on December 29th. No word yet on extras, but I’ll pass them along as soon as I hear what they are.

Here’s the plot synopsis in case this is the first time you’ve heard of the film.

Two clueless friends find themselves part of a bloody big adventure when they wander into a feeding ground for a band of fangs-baring vampire babes.  With a busload of hot history students to protect, they’ll try to survive the night, break an ancient curse, and take down as many buxom bloodsuckers as possible.

A Look at the Halloween II Blu-ray Packaging

    Sunday, November 29th, 2009

    H2 Blu-ray

Rob Zombie’s Halloween II didn’t exactly have horror fans lining up around the block when it was in theaters, but perhaps it will find an appreciative audience on DVD and Blu-ray when it releases next month.

DVD Active has posted promotional sales advertising for the film, which gives us a look at the Blu-ray packaging. Looks just like the film poster, which is pretty cool–I guess.

As far as extras are concerned, here’s what you can expect on this disc (which, as I’ve mentioned before, is almost assuredly a precursor to the Super-Mega-Awesome Rob Zombie 47 hour version of the film that we’ll see sometime later in 2010): Rated and Unrated cuts of the film, deleted and alternate scenes, audition footage, Uncle Seymour Coffins’ Stand-Up Routines, a Michael: Interior featurette, Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures Music Videos, and a blooper reel.

Expect to find the disc at retailers everywhere on January 12th.

    Pandorum DVD Art Revealed

    Thursday, November 19th, 2009

    pandorum-dvd-art

A few days ago, I brought you news about the DVD release of Pandorum (including what to expect in terms of extras). Today, I bring you the cover art (courtesy of the fine folks at DVD Active). I got nothing else…it’s cool, but not anything we hadn’t already seen in the posters.

That being said, if you missed the film in theaters (and judging by the box office numbers, most of you did) you’ll be able to check it out on DVD this December 22nd.

    Jennifer’s Body DVD Update

    Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

    Jennifer's Body DVD

News started circulating recently (courtesy of Video ETA) concerning the DVD release date of the Megan Fox film Jennifer’s Body. According to the site, the film will be available for purchase on December 29th. That’s still unconfirmed, but there is now cover art for home video release–giving some more credence to the idea that the date will become official at some point soon.

No word yet on extras or anything of that nature. Jennifer’s Body stars Amanda Seyfried and Megan Fox and was written by Diablo Cody. Fox becomes possessed by a demon and turns into a maneater (literally) with the young boys of her town on the menu. The film made less than 20 million dollars domestically (which was a huge disappointment for the studio), but maybe it can find new life on DVD…

    Thirst DVD Announced

    Thirst DVD

Good news if you’re a guy like–meaning one who now lives in the sticks and never gets to see cool movies because they don’t release them in here in redneck-ville. Park Chan Wook’s vampire flick Thirst (which played in limited release around the country this summer) has a DVD date.

DVD Times is reporting that the film, which revolves around a priest who undergoes an experimental blood transfusion and winds up a vampire, will hit DVD (courtesy of Universal Studios Home Entertainment) on November 17th. The disc is set to retail at $29.98. No mention of a Blu-ray version, so the traditional disc might be your only option.

No details on what kind of extras the disc will be packing, but I’ll share them as soon as Universal makes the official announcement. Until then, enjoy the cover art for the disc (pictured above). Unfortunately, it’s the “edited” image and not the one with the legs that make the whole thing look like a giant bat head.

Wrong Turn 3 DVD Cover Art

    wrong-turn-3-dvd

Bloody-Disgusting has unveiled the winner of their Wrong Turn 3 cover art contest. That’s it pictured above. I’m kinda bummed–I preferred the other option, but this one’s your big winner instead. If I had to guess why, I’d guess because there’s a boob in it.

You’ll be able to follow Three-Finger’s latest cannibal exploits when the film debuts on DVD this October 20th.
