H2 Myers mask

Shock Till You Drop posted a link to a fascinating (well, fascinating if you like horror movies and find the inner workings of the movie business interesting, anyway) blog entry from screenwriter Todd Farmer chronicling how he and partner Patrick Lussier went from the fast-track on Halloween 3D to dead in the water in what seems like an instant. In this lengthy piece, Farmer tells you (mostly) what happened, what they were planning for the film (they wanted Tom Atkins to be in it…how awesome would that have been?), and why the whole thing fell apart.

I won’t spoil the story (it’s well worth reading for yourself), but this should be required reading for anyone wanting to work as a writer and creator in Hollywood. If things like this can happen to Farmer and Lussier (who were coming off their success with the My Bloody Valentine remake) just imagine what they can do to guys who haven’t had anything produced…

Check out the blog posting by clicking here. I’ll tell you that his blog is getting hammered this morning so it might not load right away. Be patient–it’s worth the wait.

Tons of Behind the Scenes Saw VI Photos

jigsaw

Surprisingly enough, things have been pretty quiet on the Saw VI front. Last year, it seemed like not a day went by without some sort of news about the franchise, but aside from a few press releases here and there, we really haven’t seen the usual media blitzkrieg associated with a new Jigsaw outing. It’s still early, of course, but I expected we’d get a detailed report on every step of Saw VI’s creation.

It’s not all secrecy and silence, though–as director Kevin Greutert has unveiled a ton of new casting info and behind the scenes photos over at his blog (creatively titled My Torture Porn). There doesn’t appear to be anything particularly Earth-shattering in the posts or photos (so you can proceed without fear of spoilers), but this should give hardcore Jigsaw fans something to tide them over until the real details start to emerge before the film’s October 23rd release date.

Another Halloween 2 Michael Myers Picture

h2-myers-walking

Rob Zombie’s at it again–updating his MySpace blog (which is, quite honestly, the only fucking reason I even go to MySpace anymore…Rob, please, get a Twitter account or a Facebook or something) with another answer to a reader’s question and a new picture (above) of Michael Myers. In related news, an alert Bloody-Disgusting reader spotted a second image on the blog that was then quickly removed–but not before he’d saved it for posterity. Click here to check that one out.

This new Myers photo is cool, I guess. I think it’s a definite step down from the previous ones (and I think Zombie should have posted the one he pulled because it was different and it’s kinda creepy to boot) in that it doesn’t really show us anything we haven’t seen before. Still, it’s something–and I know there’s a legion of Myers fanboys out there who eat this shit up, studying every photo in search of things to praise or vilify. So, enjoy this one and Rob’s response to the following question.

“Another question that comes up a lot is ‘Why Halloween 2? You said you would never do another one!’”

“Well, that’s true. If I said it once I said it a million times. When I finished Halloween I was so fucking burnt out that the thought of doing another seemed totally insane to me at the time. I was done. But after a year and a half break I started to think that maybe another one wasn’t such a bad idea. I love the characters and felt that I had only just scratched the surface of what could be done with them. The basic story was out of the way and now the series could go anywhere. Seeing the aftermath of Michael’s rampage through the eyes of Laurie and Loomis was very exciting to me. So I came back and now we have a movie. Never say never.”

Friday the 13th DVD to Feature Multiple Versions of the Film

f13-mask-poster

Brad Fuller’s blog over at Bloody-Disgusting is the place to be today for all your Friday the 13th news. The producer’s latest entry talks about the NYCC screening (which went very well according to reports) and mentions last night’s Hollywood debut (which hadn’t happened yet at the time of his post).

What’s most interesting, though, is Fuller spilling the beans on a few more details about the DVD release of the film scheduled for later this year. I brought you news earlier that the disc would feature a lot of cut scenes that the MPAA wouldn’t allow in the theatrical version, but Fuller now says the DVD will feature two distinctly different cuts of the film–the more restrained R rated theatrical cut, and the sure to be loved by gorehounds like myself unrated version. Here’s what Fuller had to say:

We are finishing up on the Unrated DVD this week. That DVD will rock! We have a different cut of movie, that not only has more violence and sex, but it has an additional storyline that is totally different from the movie you will see in theaters. Its not like we just cut a few things differently, the DVD version will feel like a different movie. For those of you who love the theatrical cut, that will also be on the DVD also.

Cool news for sure, but it once again brings up the question “why should I shell out $10 to see what is arguably an inferior version of the film in the theater?” Money’s tight for everyone these days. Maybe it’s just me, but I’d have probably waited until the film had been out for a week or so before I started dishing all the DVD details.
