Pandorum DVD Art Revealed

pandorum-dvd-art

A few days ago, I brought you news about the DVD release of Pandorum (including what to expect in terms of extras). Today, I bring you the cover art (courtesy of the fine folks at DVD Active). I got nothing else…it’s cool, but not anything we hadn’t already seen in the posters.

That being said, if you missed the film in theaters (and judging by the box office numbers, most of you did) you’ll be able to check it out on DVD this December 22nd.

Pandorum

Pandorum poster 2I’m a little late with this review of Pandorum, and that’s solely attributable to the fact that nearly a week after seeing it, I’m still not really sure what to make of it from a critical perspective. One can make the case that Christian Alvart’s film is at least somewhat successful as a genre flick. It’s certainly got the sci-fi and horror elements nailed down pretty well. Yet, that argument can be countered time and time again with one that states while Pandorum does some things right, it does just as many things wrong. Even if I’m feeling particularly forgiving (and I am), and say that the pros outnumber the cons, they don’t outweigh them. In the grand scheme of things, that’s what makes this film so confounding from a critical viewpoint.

Another New Foreign Pandorum Poster

Pandorum poster brazil

For whatever reason, there are a lot of Pandorum posters floating around out there. I’ve posted a few foreign ones (including the one above) as well as various domestic teasers, motion posters, and all of that jazz. What does this mean? Well, if nothing else, it seems to indicate that the guys behind the movie genuinely want it to succeed (which isn’t always a given with genre films) and they’re actually doing some promotional and marketing work to give it the best possible chance of achieving that goal.

The latest poster comes from Brazil (courtesy of the fine folks over at STYD). Dennis Quaid and Cam Gigandet (is there a name that’s more fun to pronounce than “Gigandet”? If there is, I don’t think I’ve ever said it…) take center stage, but Ben Foster retains his high billing.

Here are the narrative details, just in case you missed them the 5,000 other times I’ve posted them.

Pandorum finds Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster as two crewmen who awaken aboard their spacecraft unaware of their mission or identities and then make a discovery that threatens the survival of mankind. It opens theatrically on September 25th.

German Pandorum Trailer is Looking Gut

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

When it comes to Christian Alvart’s sci-fi horror flick Pandorum, I’m cautiously optimistic. Everything I’ve seen and heard about this film gives me hope that it may be another Event Horizon. Yet, after doing this whole film critic gig for over a decade, I’ve learned to not get too excited based on press releases and trailers. Even a bad movie should have 90 seconds worth of interesting footage in it and that’s all you really need to make a trailer. No one but the totally naive believe anything in press releases…

That being said, I’m starting to buy into the trailers for this flick. The latest is in German but features some footage we haven’t seen previously. It’s funny seeing Dennis Quaid talk with German coming out of his mouth, but it’s even funnier when the guy doing the voiceover narration sounds like the talking goldfish on American Dad. Despite that, this is still a creepy looking preview. Let’s hope it’s not setting us up for disappointment.

Pandorum Gets a Freaky Motion Poster

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

pandorum_movie_poster1

I’m not really sure what the point is to all of these motion posters movies keep getting–I guess they’re sort of cool, but I’m just as pleased with good old fashioned still photography.

Pandorum, the sci-fi horror flick starring Ben Foster and Dennis Quaid, is the latest release to jump on the bandwagon–and to be honest, it’s the coolest motion poster I’ve seen to date. The only complaint I have is that it loops endlessly, which would be fine, except that it features dialogue. It’s for this reason that I’m making you jump past the break to see it.

If you’re not sure what the film is about, here’s an official synopsis:

Stars Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster star as two crewmen who awaken aboard their spacecraft unaware of their mission or identities and then make a discovery that threatens the survival of mankind.

Pandorum opens in theaters on September 25th.

France Gets a Pandorum Poster

pandorum-poster-french

I’m really looking forward to checking out Pandorum–if only because it looks so much like Event Horizon. The domestic one-sheets for the film have been pretty unique looking in their visual approach to selling the film (including the one with a chick who looks like Steven Tyler…)

The French, meanwhile, get a more traditional poster to promote the upcoming release of the film. That’s it above. Pretty ho-hum if you ask me. Here’s the synopsis:

Stars Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster star as two crewmen who awaken aboard their spacecraft unaware of their mission or identities and then make a discovery that threatens the survival of mankind.

Pandorum opens in theaters on September 25th.

Pandorum Gets Bumped

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

pandorum_movie_posterIf you were waiting to see Pandorum–the Event Horizon-esque sci-fi horror flick starring Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster, prepare to wait longer.

Overture Films has bumped the release date by a week, moving the film’s theatrical debut to September 25th instead of the previously announced 18th. This is actually good news though.

When the film was slated to release on the 18th, it was going in direct competition with the much hyped Megan Fox flick, Jennifer’s Body. And while Pandorum certainly is different enough to garner its own audience, there’s little doubt in my mind that a movie where Megan Fox plays a high school girl devouring young men would have crushed a dark and creepy outer space horror flick. So, kudos to Overture for not dooming their film and not forcing horror fans to have to choose which movie to see that weekend.

That’s quite the three week span for horror fans too–we get the Sorority Row remake on the 11th, Jennifer’s Body on the 18th, and Pandorum on the 25th. All that on the heels of Halloween II and The Final Destination at the tail end of August. Start saving your popcorn money, kids.

New Comic Con Pandorum Trailer

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

This new trailer for the sci-fi horror flick Pandorum debuted at Comic Con recently. I’m genuinelt interested in this film–looks a lot like a cross between Aliens, Event Horizon, and EA’s Dead Space games. If nothing else, the film’s visual design elements are striking.

Here’s the synopsis:

Stars Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster star as two crewmen who awaken aboard their spacecraft unaware of their mission or identities and then make a discovery that threatens the survival of mankind.

The film opens on September 18th–which puts it in direct competition with Jennifer’s Body at the box office. I can already pretty much guess how that showdown is going to play out.

Pandorum Release Date Bumped

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

If you were looking forward to catching Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster in the sci-fi horror flick Pandorum on September 4th, I have some bad news.

Overture films has announced that the film (which finds Forster waking up on a deserted space ship and trying to figure out what happened) is being bumped back to a September 18th release date. No reason has been given for the move, but it’s interesting as this now puts Pandorum in direct competition with the Megan Fox flick Jennifer’s Body. I don’t know that it’s a huge deal (I have a hard time imagining either film being particularly dominant at the box office…) but like Halloween II/The Final Destination, it’s puzzling why studios would want to open two genre films in direct competition.

Anyway, here’s a look at the trailer in case you missed it.

Have a Peek at the Pandorum Poster

pandorum-poster

I’m fairly interested in checking out Pandorum–the sci-fi horror flick starring Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster. Sounds interesting and the trailer looks pretty creepy.

That being said, I’m not sure what this poster has to do with the film. It kinda looks like someone gave Steven Tyler boobs (and smaller lips–or maybe they’re the same sized lips, just thinned out over three mouths…), told him to scream, and snapped a photo. I mean, really, what am I supposed to be getting from this? It’s not the impression that Pandorum is about a dude who wakes up alone on an abandoned spaceship and then tries to figure out what happened–I can tell you that much.

Pandorum opens on September 4th. The good news here is that they have lots of time to come up with a better poster before the movie comes out.
