I Didn’t Come Here to Die Gets a Trailer

While perusing the ol’ Interweb for stories this morning, I stumbled across this cool trailer for director Bradley Scott Sullivan’s I Didn’t Come Here to Die (thanks Twitch!). This is the first I’d heard of the film, which was shot entirely on a Panasonic Lumix GH1 DSLR camera. Filmed in an around the movie hotbed of Austin, Texas, this one looks pretty cool. It’s got a slasher vibe as a group of kids head out to do some volunteer work, only to learn that no good deed goes unpunished. Looks like it has some good gore, and as Twitch points out there’s one dude in the cast who looks a lot like a young Christian Bale.

There’s no official release date for I Didn’t Come Here to Die yet (the trailer just says “2010″), but you can keep up to date by checking out the film’s website.

Peep the trailer below and let me know what you think in the comment section.

The movie looks alright, but I think the big deal is the fact that it was shot with the Lumix DSLR. More and more of these cameras have tricked up their video capabilities, to the point where they’ve become viable film-making tools. I know that the television show “House” shot its season finale with a Canon 5D MkII, and I believe that this season’s True Blood on HBO is shooting on the Canon as well.

That pretty much means that anybody with a couple grand can shoot a film-quality feature.

It’s the wave of the future.

Conversely, prepare yourself for an onslaught of low-budget shit that looks REALLY good.

Yeah, this is an exiting time. The way this technology is advancing, you can achieve amazing results for very little money. I watched a little video interview with the guy who made that movie (the name escapes me..) about the quarantined zone between Mexico and America in the future and they basically shot that whole movie with one camera and three crew members. The thing is, it looks incredibly well made.

So the tech is out there — which means we’ll see some good stuff, but the shit to gold ratio is gonna get all out of whack again too.

The chainsaw effect looks wicked. I may give this indie horror flick a chance.
