Harper’s Island Headed for DVD

harpers-island-dvd

I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve only watched a tiny part of the very first episode of CBS’s slasher-esque TV series Harper’s Island. I had every intention of watching the whole run (or at least until I was certain it sucked and there was no redeeming it), but I got sidetracked with a lot of things (namely the Penguins’ run to the Stanley Cup) and once I was officially behind I couldn’t muster the urge to catch up.

I only started to regret this like five or so episodes in–when friends kept telling me that it was genuinely interesting. When Dread Central’s very own Uncle Creepy is saying it’s good, then there’s probably something to the buzz.

If you’re like me, and missed out on the whole thing, fear not–the show’s entire run is coming to DVD on September 8th. This doesn’t change the fact that the show has pretty much bombed in the ratings, but at least those of us who didn’t have the foresight (or the faith–I mean, who’d have thought CBS could do this kind of show without botching it? Even if it’s not the “Greatest Thing Ever!”, it is apparently entertaining enough to keep genre fans happy–and we’re some fickle bastards) can experience it for ourselves.

No specs have been revealed yet, but that’s some of the artwork above. More on this one as details emerge.

I was skeptical about an episodic slasher film on network tv but Harper’s Island has been a welcome surprise. It’s been full of twists and turns that have built some great suspense and they have managed to get away with a lot of gore for a CBS show. If you can’t wait for the the DVDs, I think you can still watch the whole series on the website. I’m greatly anticipating the finale tonight.
