Waiting for Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer 2? Prepare to Wait Longer

One of the cooler horror films to appear last year was the cult hit Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer (check out my review). A horror comedy about a plumber with anger management issues destined to save the world from monsters, the film managed to be both funny and filled with some cool looking creatures. The film’s earned cult status since appearing on DVD and a story broke that director Jon Knautz was hard at work planning the sequel–which was great news.

That news isn’t so great now, though. STYD learned yesterday that Knautz and his production team are prepared to begin filming a new movie–but that the movie in question is not the sequel to Jack Brooks. Instead, they’re going to be shooting a feature entitled The Shrine (formerly known as The Cult). Trevor Matthews (Jack Brooks himself) will star with Knautz once again taking a seat behind the camera.

The Shrine revolves around a group of journalists investigating a cult reportedly performing ritual human sacrifices. Their snooping ways may very well make them the next offering.

Shooting on The Shrine is set to begin in August. Here’s to hoping that Knautz and Matthews can create a new property that’s as much as fun Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer.
